Multi-awarded documentarist Howie Severino's Christmas celebration yesterday didn't go as he had planned after revealing on Instagram that he had been rushed to the hospital.
The highly-respected GMA Integrated News personality showed a photo of himself reading a book while receiving some treatment in the emergency room.
Howie then recounted that he felt some back pain and wanted to find out the root cause of it all.
“Underestimating the weight of a gift,” the I-Witness host began his post.
He continued, “On Christmas Day, after the festive hubbub of the previous night, I found myself in the ER, trying to find out if my back pain was the symptom of something serious. X-rays showed no fracture and the doctor on Xmas duty thinks it's a muscle strain from some heavy lifting I did in our garden. A few days ago, a toog tree seedling needed to be loaded into our car for delivery as a gift. It was much heavier than it looked, and I probably didn't carry it in a safe way.
“I should have known better. Toog is known as one of the tallest native trees in the Philippines. Even a young one wanted to leave an impression. That one taught me a lesson: Don't overestimate my strength, and don't underestimate a toog (or Philippine rosewood, scientific name: Petersianthus quadrialatus). (A shout out to the efficient and pleasant Xmas-duty staff at Medical City Santa Rosa, Laguna).”
Several netizens also reacted to Howie's hospital update, wishing him a speedy recovery.
