He made it big as a “Gwapings” member during the ‘90s. Today, he still continues to make waves as a leading man on television. What is next for him this 2014?

With his good looks, talent and showbiz blood running through his veins, it is undeniable that Mark Anthony Fernandez is truly destined for stardom. He made it big as a “Gwapings” member during the ‘90s. Today, he still continues to make waves as a leading man on television. What is next for him this 2014?

GMANetwork.com had an exclusive interview with the Kapuso actor during the plug shoot of his upcoming GMA Telebabad series, Rhodora X.

Mark Anthony looked back at his beginnings in the industry that he loves so much. He recalled, “I was 13. I was discovered by my ninong, Douglas Quijano. In a party, there were three teenagers and then he all of a sudden thought that he wants to make a new “Bagets” (80's boy group). The three teenagers- Eric, Jomari and myself became the “Gwapings”.

For Mark, Gwapings: The First Adventure, Pare Ko and Mangarap Ka are some of the most memorable movies that he has done in his career.

“I miss the movies, but I like TV. TV is still new for me, so I really like it. In fact, I love it,” stated Mark.

He continued, “I really wish that they could give me a Rambo-like story. Maybe they’re thinking that I’m quite old. I want them to think that I’m younger. I could still make action work.”

A lot of today’s young actors choose to go daring, may it be for a magazine or for the runway. What can Mark Anthony say about this?

“That’s not really a totally new thing. Actually, I’ve done that [Cosmo Bachelor Bash] in 1999 and I used to have a six-pack back then. Now, I just have four.”

Will he still be willing to do that at this point in his career?

He replied, “I’m not gonna do that anytime soon. Maybe I can in the near future. Who knows?”

He had this word of advice for actors from this generation: “Anybody can be who they want to be if they’re really focused on their goal. Of course you have to work hard as well.”

This 2014, what is in store for Mark Anthony?

“Of course I’m looking forward to Rhodora X and working with Jennylyn, Mark and Yasmien. As for my New Year’s resolution, gusto kong ipagpatuloy ang hindi pagyoyosi, because I’ve quit cigarettes for three months already. I just wanna continue learning from Plato. I’ve been reading his works lately. They’re very enlightening.”
