Inigo Jose

Iñigo Jose shares his experience of facing hate online during and after his 'PBB Celebrity Collab' stint.

Former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0 housemate Iñigo Jose goes candid as he opens up about receiving hate comments online.

In his conversation with content creator Benedict Cua, the two shared their personal experiences and takeaways when dealing with bashing from netizens.

"Bago lang ako (sa industry) kasi parang nanibago ako syempre na ganoon pala 'yun," Iñigo recalled, admitting that he was deeply affected at first.

"But I wanna know also how you handle 'yung situations na ganoon pagka naki-criticize ka ng mga tao," he added.

Benedict responded honestly, encouraging self-reflection. "You have to look sa sarili mo kung bakit sila galit sa 'yo. Kasi ako, kaya ako nasasaktan sa bashing dati (iniisip ko) more than sa nararamdaman ko, ano 'yung nararamdaman ng mga loved ones ko," he said.

The influencer also emphasized the importance of checking one's intentions behind actions that become targets of criticism.

"If your intention was not to hurt, hindi mo masasabi kung ano 'yung mararamdaman ng ibang tao. Hindi mo masabi na, ' 'Di ka dapat ma-offend kasi hindi ko intention to hurt.' So it really depends on how you make it up," Benedict added.

Iñigo then shared how thoughts of his mother weighed heavily on him, wondering how affected she was by the negative comments.

"When it was happening, [ang unang] kailangan kong gawin was to protect myself. Kailangan ko munang ayusin ito. Mahirap," Iñigo said.

The former housemate recalled that he first learned about the situation from his mom while checking his phone after being evicted from the program.

"The moment I picked up my phone, I was like 'Pagka-scroll ko 'yun nga 'yung una kong makikita,'" he shared.

However, after seeing wholesome fan edits of himself and his fellow housemates, Iñigo chose to focus on the positive content until it eventually shaped his algorithm.

Spending time with friends also helped him process the situation. While they occasionally discussed the issue, Iñigo said he remained open to listening.

"Ako naman, I'm open kasi I'm close with my friends. They mean no harm," he said.

Despite moving forward and knowing that his apology to the housemates was accepted, the Kapamilya star admitted that he still has lingering questions about the hate he received.

"Like hindi pa siya nawawala. But maybe, that's the responsibility that I have to myself, that every day in life, people are gonna see me and then they'd be able to make an opinion again. But I can never invalidate that kasi everyone is entitled to their opinion," he said.

While Iñigo believes he was misunderstood, he acknowledged the roots of the criticism. Yet he clarified that the comments do not define him.

"I'm 20, I'm older than the other housemates, but that doesn't mean na hindi din ako nagkakamali. 'Yun naman ang sinasabi sa atin ng buhay parang go out there and make mistakes. Everything is a learning process," he shared.

In the end, Iñigo said he is choosing to focus on the people who appreciate him and on becoming a better person each day.

Iñigo Jose got evicted from the PBB house last December with Kapuso housemate Lee Victor.

Since then, the two have focused on spending quality time with friends and family, as well as enjoying projects and guestings.
