The historic location has just reopened last February only to shut down again to protect public safety.

Just when the public are rediscovering their history, now comes the news of their closure as COVID-19 cases surge around Metro Manila.

The Intramuros Administration has announced that Fort Santiago, the Casa Manila Museum, Plaza Roma, Baluarte De San Diego, and the President's Gallery will be temporarily off-limits to visitors “until further notice.”

Furthermore, entry to Intramuros will be restricted.

Guards will be stationed at the entry gates to check on visitors' purpose.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., all gates except Gates 3 near Manila Cathedral, and Gate 11 near DOLE-PLM, will be closed for the duration of Manila's curfew.

All establishments offering boarding and lodging are required to report and coordinate with their barangay before entry is allowed at the gates.

Likewise, all other plazas shall be clear of people by 6:30 p.m.

This latest development came less than a month after Intramuros and its attractions have just reopened to the public after closing down for almost a year due to the lockdown and quarantine restrictions implemented throughout the country because of the pandemic.

The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a noticeable increase in COVID-19 cases, particularly in Metro Manila, in the past days prompting both the national and local governments to once again implement policies to quell the numbers.

A two-week curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. has been enforced starting last Monday, March 15, in Metro Manila in response to the situation.

OCTA Research has said that daily COVID-19 cases in the country may balloon from 10,000 to 11,000 by the end of March.
