Both men were in the bottom group last week. Ironically, their performances were among the best that night. Is performing well really not enough to win?
Celebrity Duets aims to showcase non-professional singers who are personalities in their own right. The objective is to give them a chance to prove that they can carry a tune and perform on national TV with a real singer, thus the title Celebrity Duets. But what happens if the celebrity succeeds in this test with flying colors? Is this enough to give them a spot in the coveted finals? Text by Loretta G. Ramirez Both men were in the bottom group last week. Ironically, their performances were among the best that night. Let us get to know them better and find out how they feel about performing in Celebrity Duets. The talented Mr. Tracy starsWyngard Tracy is a talent manager by profession. He has managed the careers of Jaya, Maricel Soriano, and the band Side A, to name a few. He joined the Celebrity Duetsout of Ms. Wilma Galvante's (GMA SVP for Entertainment) prodding. "By force ito ni Wilma Galvante, (smiles) although I am also a frustrated singer that is why I took the opportunity to join the show," shares Wyngard during the press conference of Celebrity Duets. True enough, he showed that he can not only carry a tune but he is also able to wow the audience and the judges (Mitch Valdez, Louie Ocampo and Buboy Garovillo) with his performances with Gian Magdangal, Paolo Santos and Maricris Garcia. "Every rehearsal, naiiyak ako, maganda 'yung song pero nakakiyak," says Wyngard about his performance with Maricris, the Pinoy Pop Superstar champion. Next week, we are sure that he will again give a moving performance and prove that he is indeed a celebrity to reckon with in this competition. The singing fashionista Frederick Peralta, on the other hand, accepted the challenge to break the monotony in his world of fashion. stars"I'll try to entertain naman people not just by clothes or designs but through music as well," confesses the renowned fashion designer. He also added that he sings for his own fulfillment. So it is no wonder that Frederick's performances were the most applauded and praised by the judges and hosts ( Ogie Alcasid, and Regine Velasquez) of the show. "Lagi akong na su-surprise every week at ina-abangan ko kung sino ang ka-duet ni Frederick and so far lahat naman ng nakakaduet niya ay mga legend. Ang galing pipili ni Frederick," says Regine when Frederick performed with Dulce in last Saturday's show. So, it was really a surprise when she announced that Frederick Peralta will not continue to the next round. It highlighted the fact that performing well is not enough to succeed in Celebrity Duets. It is the text votes that really count, after all this is not a singing contest as originally conceptualized by Simon Cowell of American Idol and Pop Idol.
