With hard work and determination, Pinoy Pop Superstar batch one finalists -- MC Monterola, Kristel Astor, Charmaine Piamonte and Michael Garcia-- are no longer waiting around for people to hear them. They’re going out and making sure they are heard. MC Monterola and Michael Garcia recently dropped by the iGMA office for an exclusive interview to promote their Metro Bar concert titled It’s Our Turn. stars It’s Our Turn was initially planned to be held last year but had to be delayed due to scheduling conflicts. But now it’s all set, and part of the proceeds will go to a school in Samar. Why the title though? “Ang basic idea kasi nito is the concept na ‘tayo naman’,” MC Monterola explained. Since they weren’t in the Top 2 during their season in Pinoy Pop Superstar, they understood they won’t be given as much priority. This only pushed them to strive harder for themselves so they asked permission from the Artist Center if they could plan a show that’s just for them. “(We wanted to) make a show for us, about us, for our fans.” Aside from starring in the production, MC also revealed that he will direct the whole thing. He already has a background in directing from his college days before he joined the competition. And he’s prepared to use it to make the whole event more enjoyable for his fans. “Si MC kasi, strict ‘yan,” Michael Garcia said, quickly adding that he still looks after them. “Siya ‘yung pinakamatanda sa amin sa batch, so kuya talaga.” stars Different voices Since the end of their batch of Pinoy Pop Superstar, the two have been busy with their respective bands. MC plays the band scene with fellow PPS finalist Kristel Astor under the name Mo Drive, and Michael partnered up with Charmaine Piamonte for Strings and Harmony. The two bands focus on different genres, and they think fans will enjoy the bands’ performances. “Kasi from PPS (Pinoy Pop Superstar) ang pini-present namin ay ‘yung show talaga,” MC explains. “So this time, makikita niNyo talaga ‘yung personalities namin at saka ‘yung type of songs na talagang gusto namin.” stars “Meron kaming showdown,” Michael revals, saying the girls will go head to head against each other, as will MC and himself. But as to how the showdown will end, that remains as a surprise. And there’s also a very special guest whose presence the audience will surely look forward to! “I would like to invite you sa show po namin this coming May 31. It’s entitled ‘It’s Our Turn’ with MC Monterola, Michael Garcia, Kristel Astor and Charmaine Piamonte. Marami pa po kaming nakaka-shock talaga na mga guests, so manood po kayo.” -- Text by Jason John S. Lim. With interviews by Xylen Geecel D. Alamo. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
