
Several South Koreans were affected by the recent wildfires in multiple areas across their country.
Many had to evacuate their homes and disaster authorities were dispatched to manage the crisis.
In this time of need, several celebrities made donations to support wildfire relief efforts.
According to local news reports, the non-governmental organization The Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association received substantial donations from South Korean stars in the K-pop and entertainment industries.
Nation's First Love Bae Suzy and NCT's Haechan contributed a combined total of 100 million won to assist the affected areas.
“Bae Suzy expressed her desire to make a donation immediately upon learning about the wildfire damages spreading,” the actress' agency, Management Soop, said in a press release. “She hopes that the wildfires will be extinguished as soon as possible so that the displaced victims can return to their normal lives.”
K-pop star and actress IU also donated a total of 200 million won. “I hope this will be a small help to those affected, and I express my deep condolences to the victims,” she stated. “I sincerely hope that the forest fire will be extinguished as soon as possible without further loss of life.”
IU continued, “I deeply appreciate the dedication of the firefighters who are working hard to extinguish the fire.”
South Korean actress Kim Ji-won donated 50 million won to support those affected by the fires in Ulsan, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang provinces. She expressed, "I hope it will help a little bit in recovering from the forest fires."
Kim Ji-won added, "I sincerely hope that the forest fires will be extinguished as soon as possible, and that the daily lives of the victims will be restored."
Other celebrities, including Running Man star Yoo Jae-suk, Han Ji-min, Choi Jung-hoon, Park Bo-young, and Chun Woo-hee, were also thanked for their generous donations.
As of Wednesday afternoon (March 26), reports indicated that 24 people had died and 26 were injured due to the wildfires. The fires affected cities and provinces such as Cheongsong-gun, Oksan-myeon, Jeomgok-myeon, Andong-si, Yeongdeok-gun, and Yeongyang-gun. The fires also spread through the northern region of North Gyeongsang Province.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the wildfire.
