English singer-songwriter Samm Henshaw serenaded his Filipino fans in an intimate show at Teatrino Greenhills during the Manila stop of his It Could Be Worse tour last Monday, February 2.
Known for his seamless blend of R&B, soul, and gospel, Samm captivated his fans with his vocal runs, impressive range, and booming register.
His hour-and-a-half performance left the audience in awe, showcasing a voice that is as calming as it is spirit-filled.
Samm took fans on a musical journey, starting with his song "Closer" and his 2018 classics like "Broke and Hair Down."
The energy stayed high as he serenaded the Pinoy crowd with a string of favorites, including How Does It Feel, Water, and Night Calls. From the upbeat rhythm of "Stay on the Move" to the raw emotion of "Still Broke" and "Troubled Ones," there wasn't a dull moment during the show.
Many Filipino fans attended and jammed along to Samm's songs, including actress Iza Calzado.
Joining Iza were fellow stars Ketchup Eusebio, Gabby Padilla, and her nephew.
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Iza shared her experience watching Samm perform live and admitted that she is a huge fan of the English singer.
“I am definitely a big fan of Samm Henshaw. Watching him live it just feels so much energy and soul, and it's like going to church. His voice is such a gift from God,” Iza said.
“A lot of his songs are beautiful. S'yempre 'di ko naman memorize lahat. Actually, I didn't realize he has a new album na pala,” she added.
She also revealed that she discovered Samm and his music through her nephew, who joined her at the concert.
“I discovered his [Samm Henshaw] music because of my nephew in 2021,” said Iza.
During the interview, the actress opened up about the personal significance of the setlist, noting how becoming a mother shifted her listening habits.
“You know, when you become a mom... I don't know for me lang, I was listening mostly to my daughter; what I would make my daughter listen to. Kaya nga 'yung kanina, I remember this time in my life where I am listening to this, I know exactly where I was, 'yung gano'n,” Iza told.
Expressing her hopes for the artist's future in the country, Iza issued a heartfelt plea for the British singer to return for an even larger show.
She also took the opportunity to rally other Filipinos to support Samm, hoping his first visit to Manila would be the start of a long-term relationship with his local fans.
“It's so nice, and he finally got to perform in the Philippines. Hopefully, Samm this is not your last, we will make sure of that. We have to spread the word so that next time, bigger venue, full band and I hope if you haven't heard of Samm Henshaw, if it is your first time hearing his name, you can find him on any platform, and I hope you enjoy his music,” Iza said.
As the show drew to a close, Samm expressed his gratitude to the local crowd and pledged to return to Manila for a future performance.
He had already left the stage following his planned final song, but, moved by the crowd's enthusiasm, Samm surprised fans by returning to the stage to perform his song, Joy.
