Jan Catherine passed away on Thursday, March 18, after being admitted at St. Luke's Hospital, BGC, for septic shock.

Equestrienne and daughter of SM Prime Holdings chairman Henry Sy Jr., Jan Catherine Sy, passed away on Thursday, March 18.

Several posts on social media from both family and friends confirmed the statement and said that Jan died around 6:35 p.m.

She was 29 years old.

“Tonight, March 18, 2021, at 6:35 p.m., our dearest daughter, Jan Catherine Sy, is now with the Lord Jesus,” said in a statement by the Cup of Faith Facebook Page.

“Blessed be the name of the Lord. You give and take away. My heart will choose to say, Lord, Blessed be your name.”

Jan's parents, Henry Sy Jr. and Princess Sy, signed the Facebook post.

Furthermore, Senator Joel Villanueva offered his deepest condolences to the family.

The Filipino politician, who is a good friend of Henry Sy Jr., wrote, “Devastating to hear the passing of Sis. Jan Catherine Sy, daughter of my good friend and brother in Christ Henry (Big Boy) Sy Jr.

“Our deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones. Much love and prayers.”

Before the news of Jan's demise, Magic 89.9 radio disc jockey Tony Toni asked for his followers' help to donate blood after Jan was admitted to the hospital for septic shock.

He tweeted on March 14, “Manila Friends! A Jan Catherine Sy is in septic shock right now at St. Luke's BGC. She needs A+ or AB+ from a male blood donor.

“Look for her parents Henry Sy Jr. and Princess, at the hospital if you need more details.”

Upon hearing the news of Jan's death, DJ Tony Toni retweeted Senator Villanueva's post.

Jan Catherine Sy was the vice president of SM Development Corporation, the real estate development arm of the SM conglomerate, owned by the late tycoon Henry Sy.

She was an avid equestrienne who have been training for the sport since seven years old, mainly in France.

Aside from the Sy heiress, other notable figures and personalities considered to have been gone too soon include actors Rico Yan and AJ Perez, beauty queen April Love Jordan, and actress Julie Vega, among others.
