Jasmine Curtis as advocate for energy independence and environment

As we observe Earth Month at the time of enhanced community quarantine, Jasmine Curtis-Smith appealed to the public to be aware of their energy consumption and solid waste disposal.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith voiced out her concerns about energy consumption and solid waste disposal during the time of enhanced community quarantine.

As someone who advocates for energy independence for the country, the Kapuso actress calls for lawmakers, members of private sectors, and other stakeholders to start investing in the Philippines's indigenous and sustainable energy.

This is following the absence of reliable electricity among millions of Filipinos due to lack of access and surge in power costs due to imports of fuel.

Youth Ambassador for the Philippine Energy Independence Council💡 There are still 16 million Filipinos going withouth reliable electricity and this is due to lack of access as well as a surge in power costs due to imports of fuel. Imagine if we could source our own energy right here from our very own home? From solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and natural gas... all of which we already have. Here to lead and begin progressive and positive discourse among the youth to create awareness, empower our knowledge and hopefully inspire our lawmakers and big game players to start investing in our indigenous energy. WE HAVE THE POWER. Let's tap into that power and achieve our very own energy independence. ⚡ #JCSAdvocacy Ps. Puffy eyes from my 3 hour nap from Pasay to Nueva Ecija yesterday 😂

In GMANetwork.com's Skype interview, Jasmine shared a simple way to lessen the energy consumption in every household as most of the individuals are forced to stay indoors to avoid contracting COVID-19.

She said, "Lahat tayo nasa bahay, maraming nagtsa-charge ng phone, maraming nag-o-on ng ilaw, nag-o-on ng electric fan or aircon.

"Madaming naka-plug, basically, so madami tayong nako-consume.

"Dahil nanghihiram tayo ng energy natin sa ibang mga bansa, lalaki din 'yung mga electrical bills natin.

"One of the ways I practice is kung 'di naman ginagamit, i-unplug mo kasi whether or not naka-on ang bagay, it still has electrical surges so nakaka-consume 'yan ng kuryente.

"And that means our country has to borrow more sa ibang bansa so sa ngayon, 'di natin afford na mangutang pa."

On the other hand, Jasmine also called on individuals to practice solid waste segregation.

Through this, they can manage their waste properly and, at the same time, can help the garbage collectors earn a little.
