Popular lifestyle content creator and 'finfluencer' (a portmanteau of the words finance and influencer) Jax Reyes posted timely advice to his followers on Facebook about the rising cost of food and fuel.

Last February, the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) stated that the inflation rate in the country reached 2.4 percent higher than what was recorded a year ago, which was 2.1 percent.

Many economists are also warning that the rate of the increase of prices of goods and services will be a lot bigger in March due to the sky high oil prices brought about by the ongoing US, Israel and Iran conflict.

In a Facebook post last March 28, Jax Reyes lamented that Php 1000 can only buy a few goods in the groceries now compared to before.

He posted, “Yung ₱1,000 sa grocery dati, ang bigat na ng plastic. Ngayon, kasya na lang sa isang maliit na eco bag.” Jax then told his followers, “Wag kang ma-stress kung mabilis maubos ang budget mo. Ang inflation ang may kasalanan, hindi ikaw.”

For those thinking about buying a new house or car, Jax advised that due to the bleak situation of our economy, it is wise to delay your plans and focus on staying debt-free for now.

"It is totally okay to delay your major life milestones (like buying a house or a car) coz the economy is bad,” the finfluencer stressed. “Being practical and staying debt-free is so much better than being 'on time' but broke.”
