The queen of soul, Jaya, is an exceptional singer. But little does the public know that Jaya also has perfect comedic timing. We see her as the incomparable soul queen on SOP every Sunday and the fabulous co-host of All Star K. But did you know that Jaya Ramsey inherited something more from her mother and it’s not the chocolate brown skin. Most of us see Jaya as the complete opposite of her mother, comedienne Elizabeth Ramsey. Unlike her mother who seems to have an amazing gift in the act of comedy, Jaya is more reserved and serious. But there’s something you should know about this singer-mom. According to co-host Allan K, Jaya has knack for comedy as well, “She’s got timing sa comedy talaga, hindi man niya alam.” Their show All Star K! is Jaya’s personal omedy club. “This is only the venue for me to be crazy. Sa SOP we get to do that a little bit pero singing ang aming concentration doon, dito talagang loka lokahan” says Jaya. Co-host Allan K has been supporting his good friend Jaya and he seems to be a fan too. “Matagal ko ng sinasabi sa kanya, ‘malaki ang edge mo sa ibang singers because of your roots and the way you were brought up. Hindi niya alam na nakakatuwa siya eh,” says Allan. Jaya reveals that her funny side is something she’s comfortable doing, backstage. But when she’s in front of the camera, the queen has her hesitations. “Sa likod kaya ko siyang gawin. [On camera] nahihiya ako, kasi akala ng tao hindi ako bastos. The way I talk, back here talagang nakakaloka, kaya kengkoy talaga ako.” The two even played around with the idea during our visit back stage of All Star K, “Sabi ko sa kanya, hindi lang na-uso ngayon yung Kili TV natin, but she should get one like that. Dapat mag guest siya sa mga ganoon” says Allan. Jaya jokingly replies, “Ayaw nga ako kunin na mag-artista eh, parang hindi bagay sa akin.” As we sample her comedy “hirits,” we can’t help but wonder why Jaya’s comedic side is going to waste. She reveals that we shouldn’t worry because something funny is brewing for this sensational lady. “Malapit na ako mag movie, nakakatakot kasi di’ba pag sa shooting you have to take it many times. How do you keep a punch line funny, a million times?” But Allan K, was very optimistic, “I’m sure [siya] ang comic relief dyan. Yun na yung launching ng comic career [niya].” Our bets are with Allan.
