Singer and vocal coach Jeffrey Hidalgo is optimistic about Original Pinoy Music (OPM) and even the indie scene. He credits the availability of technology in enabling the younger generation to produce content.
“I think the local music scene is really alive right now kasi just like in cinema, independent music [is flourishing]. Ang daming magagaling [especially now na] anyone can make songs with Garage Band or whatever. They sound amazing so it’s really in the artistry [and not with how much exposure you get or who produces you] so I really commend these artists,” he said.
As someone who has been in the industry for several years, he’s happy to be exposed to artists of different genres.
“That’s how I am as a musician – I love listening to new stuff all the time… [I follow] new music. Gusto ko palaging updated ako, gusto ko [to hear from] bagong released na [mga] banda,” he added.
He’s proud of young blood who are brave about releasing self-composed music because it brings a different flavor to OPM.
“Interesting 'yung linalabas ng mga bands or artists [ngayon]. Makikita mo [na] hybrid siya of western influence and 'yung [unique Filipino] sound. [It’s] very rich. I like it, I’m excited by it,” he declared.
Jeffrey recently guested on the Playlist to perform the Wagas and Luna Mystika theme songs.
