Singer and actress Jeniffer Maravilla sang her rendition of the song "Ikaw ang Buhay Ko" on Spotlight Music Sessions this Friday, September 15.
The song, which is the opening theme of the GMA afternoon drama series Raising Mamay, talks about how the singer promises the person they are singing to that they will always be there.
It also talks about how the singer sees the person as the purpose of her existence, and how her world would stop if ever he leaves her.
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Jeniffer shared her original song, "Alimuom," which she describes as a hugot song.
According to the singer-actress, “It speaks about a broken relationship, a failed relationship. And kahit na nag-fail 'yung relationship niyo, parang every after failed relationship, puwede ka naman uli mag-start ulit at ibangon 'yung sarili mo.”
However, Jeniffer said that she actually sees the song in a different light, saying that it's a song that gives hope instead.
“Parang mas nagbigay siya sa akin rather ng hope na despite ng mga challenges na pinagdadaanan natin ay puwede tayong bumangon ulit at magbigay ng bagong pag-asa, bagong panimula, para sa ating sarili,” she said.
The song, according to The Clash season 2 top 5, is special to her because of the message she got from it, and shared that joining the Kapuso singing competition was her last try before changing career paths in case she does not make it.
“Parang sabi ko sa sarili ko, 'Pag hindi pa siguro ako nakuha ng The Clash nun, I think magta-try na'ko ng ibang path for me,” she said.
Jeniffer shared that while her parents told her that she has been showing interest and some skills in singing since she was three years old, it was only until she was a teen that she started joining competitions. And while The Clash was not her first, it may be her last.
“And ayun, thank you God na I'm here after nun,” she said.

Right now, Jeniffer is happy that she gets to try new things, including a unique genre that she has not done before. While she first started in the competition with pop as her genre, she has now included some ethnic sounds into her music.
“'Yun din naman 'yung parang pinaka-advocacy ko sa pagkanta ko or sa paggawa rin ng music is because gusto ko ring mag-promote ng sariling atin,” she said.
She clarified, however, that her path with regard to the type of music she will create can still change, but that for now, she's happy to be able to make this type of music.
Jeniffer sees fellow Clasher Jeremiah Tiangco as one of her musical inspirations in terms of singing and making music. If given the chance, she would like to collaborate with him.
“Kasi sobrang na-a-appreciate ko lang talaga 'yung genre niya 'tsaka 'yung artistry niya. Parang si Jeremiah kasi kapatid-kapatid ko 'yan so isa siya I think, sa mga parang iniidolo ko in terms sa pag-create niya ng sarili niyang tunog.”
