Actress Jessie Salvador is one of the 40 hopefuls to join the prestigious Binibining Pilipinas 2023 pageant.

While she might look ready and confident when she submitted her application, she admitted that she had no confidence in herself and is now “conquering [her] fear” by doing so.

In an interview with 'Hey Adam G,' which was published on YouTube, the Binibining Pilipinas candidate said that she has made plans to join the pageant industry since last year, but only decided to do so this year after she prayed for signs that she should join the pageant.

“Parang last year, may plan na, pero siguro in God's perfect time. Bago pa ako mag decide to join talaga, lagi ako nag-hahanap ng sign,” she said.

She added, “So every time na may interviews din, my friends and families din, 'Alam mo sumali ka ng pageant, sumali ka ng Binibining Pilipinas.'

Aside from family and friends, her sister, Eat Bulaga host and actress-dancer Maja Salvador, pushed her to join the pageant and even gave her sound advice.

She recalled Maja's advise, “'Wag kang panghinaan ng loob. Kasi lahat naman nadadaan sa trainings, napag-aaralan lahat ng bagay, and maniwala ka lang sa sarili mo na kaya mo yon.”

Joining the pageant

When she finally decided she wanted to join Binibining Pilipinas, Jessie said that she was doing it not because others pushed her to do so, but because she was also doing it for herself.

“To build my confidence and magkaroon ako ng achievement pa in life,” she said.

When she was asked why she wanted to prove more after already being an actress, she answered, “Para mas lumawak pa yung mga makikilala natin and ano kasi ako e, gusto ko mag try, mag explore pa ng ibang bagay.”

She then expressed how happy she is to be able to join Binibining Pilipinas, and shared her reasons why she chose the pageant among the other pageants done in the Philippines.

“Siguro kasi mas more on-personal kasi siya, e. Mas connected with the people. Ibang pageant din naman, like Miss Universe, pero siguro pag Miss Universe, hindi ko pa siya kakayanin since I'm starting pa lang pumasok sa pageant industry,” she said.
