South Korean actor Ji Chang-wook's agency has denied allegations that he deliberately evaded taxes after reports emerged that he was ordered to pay billions of won following a tax audit.
In a statement cited by Korean entertainment outlet Soompi, Spring Company clarified that there was "absolutely no intentional omission of income or tax evasion through dishonest means."
The agency's statement came after reports claimed that the 38-year-old actor underwent an audit by South Korea's National Tax Service and was required to pay a substantial amount in taxes.
According to Spring Company, it fully cooperated with authorities throughout the audit process and maintained that there was no deliberate wrongdoing on Ji's part.
The company stressed that the matter stemmed from differences in interpretation regarding tax regulations rather than any attempt to avoid tax obligations.
Ji Chang-wook is known for his roles in numerous Korean dramas and, most recently, the zombie horror film Colony.
Further details regarding the audit and the amount involved have not been disclosed.
