Star of the New Gen Jillian Ward is excited to take on a new role as part of the judging panel of The Clash Teens, the first-ever teen edition of the all-original Filipino singing competition, The Clash.
With her experience in the entertainment industry, Jillian's arrival comes at the perfect time as she takes on the role of mentoring aspiring teen singers within her age group.
“Ako kasi, ang binabantayan ko dito is kung paano nila ine-express yung sarili nila, kung paano nila ginagawa yung storytelling sa stage. Sobrang nakaka-excite kada may bagong Clasher na papasok kasi iba-iba talaga yung kwento na pinapakita nila on stage,” she shared during The Clash Teens media conference last month.
As a former child star who has transitioned into her teenage years, Jillian is well aware of the challenges Gen Zs face today.
“Ako naman, parang ate nila. I started very young, so alam ko yung struggles ng pagiging child star hanggang sa pagiging teenager. Mostly, doon pumapasok yung self-doubt. Kasi kapag teenager ka, doon mo pa lang bini-build yung confidence mo. And I think yun din talaga yung ma-o-offer ko sa kanila—kung paano i-build yung confidence at kung paano sila magiging proud sa sarili nila.”
To further inspire the contestants, Jillian reflected on a personal lesson she hopes to pass on to the teen Clashers.
“Kahit anong mangyari, they should keep on going. Siyempre, magkakaroon tayo ng failures on stage, hindi palaging perfect yung mapapakita natin. Just always try to give it your all and keep on practicing. Yun talaga. Pinakamase-share ko sa kanila is dapat vina-value nila yung disiplina, especially on stage. Kahit gaano kalaki yung stage, kahit gaano kadami o kaunti yung audience mo, dapat parati mong binibigay yung 100 percent mo. Kahit isa lang yung nanonood sa 'yo, kailangan ibigay mo pa rin yung best mo.”
Now regarded as one of the country's most bankable stars of her generation, Jillian also shared a heartfelt message to her younger self.
“Stay committed and keep on learning. You never know baka may iba ka pang talents na hindi mo pa naa-unlock, na na-unlock ko na ngayon. Kahit may mga taong nagsasabi sa 'yo na you can't do certain things or achieve certain things, nothing is impossible if you stay committed, stay grounded, and keep your intentions pure.
"Always remember na yung ginagawa mo, your craft has a bigger purpose, and that is to inspire other people and be a light to others. Keep working hard, but also remember that it's not just about success. It's more than that. Enjoy life, stay happy, and always pray."
Joining Jillian in the Clash Panel are Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and BGYO member and Chinito P-Pop Charmer, JL Toreliza, who is a former The Clash contestant.
Hosted by Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz, The Clash Teens airs every Sunday, beginning June 7, at 7:15 p.m. on GMA and Kapuso Stream.
