Versatile TV-movie actor John Estrada gives Pauline Mendoza, his co-star in Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat, a thumbs-up.
The big TV project, which premieres on February 22, is the first lead role of Pauline. In the Afternoon Prime series, she will play Iris Salvador, while John will portray her dad, Victor.
During the media conference for Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat on February 16, the entertainment press got the chance to interview the seasoned talents of the drama series, which included John, Carmina Villarroel, Gio Alvarez, Tanya Gomez, and Tanya Garcia-Lapid.
Asked by GMANetwork.com about the best qualities of Pauline as an actress, John Estrada pointed out that the Kapuso actress is really a hard worker.
'Yung pagka-eager niya, she's hungry, she's so motivated.
“Alam mo sa mga ibang nakikita kong bata na binibigyan ng chance na para mag-bida, 'yung iba kasi parang may katamaran.
“'Yung iba naman you know wala pa man resulta 'yung pagbibida nasa utak na nila, but hindi ko nakita kay Pauline 'yun.”
He also advised Pauline to be prepared emotionally and physically, since this project will test her core.
“Parati ko nga sinasabi sa kanya, sabi ko, 'Anak, alam mo specially sa inyo bata pa kayo. Totoo 'yung talagang kumbaga, e, sasagarin kayo when it comes to taping hours and all that.'
“But, always remember na ito 'yung biggest break mo. This is do or die, kumbaga for you.
“Make or break di ba, so tiisin mo lahat ng hirap. Kapag nagutushan ka ng mga tao dito, this show can make or break you.
“And nagutushan ko kay Pauline [Mendoza] talagang nakikinig siya, hindi mo siya nakitang umarte.”
John added that Pauline Mendoza is on the right track and her attitude toward her craft already makes her a "superstar."
The actor explained, “Well to tell you honestly, noong mga first taping days namin parang sabi ko, 'Aba, parang may attitude 'to.' But, I was wrong, I was completely wrong!
“Noong nag-lock-in taping kami, doon ko nakita 'yung totoong kulay ni Pauline na she's really willing to listen and willing siya magtrabaho, willing siya matuto.
“Kung ano sabihin mo sa kanya nakikinig siya, ginagawa niya. Kung mero'n ka ganung qualities sa sarili mo, e, qualities ng isang superstar 'yun. So, I wish her all the luck and I think Pauline is on the right track.”
John also took the opportunity to thank his home network, GMA-7, for keeping them comfortable during their one-month lock-in taping for Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat in Batangas last year.
In his interview with Kapuso showbiz reporter Aubrey Carampel, the whole lock-in experience became a lot more pleasant, because the production team ensured that all of the actors were well taken care of.
John recalled, “Mero'n ako mga post noon na sobra ako na saya with this, of course with GMA, most especially with the production of Sir ARP [Anthony Pastorpide], because talagang matagal-tagal na akong arista, it's a rarity for us actors to really say na very comfortable kami, kung saan kami naka-billet, because dito talaga naramdaman ko na binigyan kami ng importansya.
“Sinigurado nila na talagang comfortable kami, kasi nga, well akala nung iba very glamorous 'yung pag-aartista, but you know, very glamorous nga pero may other side of the coin 'yun.
“Inalagaan kami maigi, kaya kahit miss na miss namin 'yung pamilya namin, they really make sure naman na medyo kumportable kami. So, naiibsan 'yung kalungkutan mo, dahil alam mo maganda 'yung nakikita mo.”
