After dropping their new addictive track “Emoji,” Queen of C-Pop JOLIN pens a heartwarming message to the Kings of P-pop SB19.
On Instagram, the iconic star shared their new song along with a reflection on working with the group.
JOLIN described their collaboration as feeling like “a blind date,” recalling how she wondered at first, “What are we going to talk about?”
"Have you ever tried replacing a whole bunch of things you wanted to say with just a few emojis? Compressing complex emotions and social terms into a few symbols to make things easier for yourself? I've also found myself often hiding those unspoken, even slightly turbulent, emotions behind a seemingly nonchalant expression," she wrote in Chinese.
"So during our first online meeting, I said a few words: 'Emoji, social, fake," and they nodded almost simultaneously. It turns out we're all the same. Sometimes, we all hide behind symbols and feel a little tired and embarrassed about that compressed version of ourselves."
JOLIN then thanked the group for their memorable collaboration, saying their passion and energy inspired her.
"Thank you, boys, for always bringing so much energy in person. It infects me. Special thanks to Ken who generously showered me with during the arrangement process, giving warmest support and feedback (| hope those expressions behind the screen reflected genuine joy )
She ended her message by congratulating SB19 on their album and expressing support for their upcoming performances.
SB19 and JOLIN's “Emoji” is one of the featured tracks on the P-pop group's latest album, Wakas at Simula. It also includes SB19's collaboration with Japanese group BE:FIRST on the dance track “Toyfriend.”
Beyond the album, the group is preparing for their Wakas at Simula: The Trilogy Concert Finale, set on April 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds.
SB19 is also set to represent the Philippines on the global stage, including an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, USA.
