
Remember the hit 2020 song 'Bawal Lumabas' which gained huge popularity and even covers from different artists? Pop, R&B, and Soul singer Jopper Rill took a spin on the song on the GMA online music channel Spotlight Music Sessions and it's a must-watch!
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Jopper shared how he came across the song and why he did a cover version of it.
According to Jopper, he was already doing different kinds of music back then when a friend showed him their own cover version of 'Bawal Lumabas' in a different genre. That's when he decided to make his own version of it.
“Then in-upload ko siya [may nagsabi sa'kin] 'Viral ka na!' Natuwa naman ako, napuyat pa nga ako kakatingin ng views e,” he shared.
He added that he couldn't believe what was happening as he never expected that his version of the song would go viral.
“Talagang 'yun ang isa sa mga greatest achievement ko. Nang dahil doon, marami pang mga opportunities na nagbukas,” he said.

Jopper shared that he was eight years old when he first released his own album filled with children's songs. Being part of a family of musicians, he was already immersed in music at an early age.
“Mom and dad ko are both musicians, sumasama ako sa mga events. Bata pa lang ako, ako tagabuhat ng mga gamit nila, hanggang sa nakasama na 'ko sa buong pamilya namin as a band,” he shared.
Jopper played the keyboards for his parents' band which honed her skills till he was ready to go solo. His passion for music was further reinforced by his idols and friends.
Jopper also shared that his love for Pop, R&B, and Soul genres stemmed from the music his family would play at home and listen to as a kid. Some of his favorite artists who have also influenced his style in music were Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
One of Jopper's dreams is to be a popular musical artist. “Siyempre 'yan ang pangrap ko. Kahit sino namang musician e, 'yan ang gusto. Gusto maging famous na musical artist. Kakantahin nila 'yung kanta ko, every word, every song alam nila,” he said.
