A month after giving birth to her second child, Joyce Pring opens up about her unmedicated birth story and the challenges she experienced.
On April 21, 2023 Joyce and husband Juancho Trivino welcomed their daughter Agnes Eleanor or Aggie. Joyce had a safe delivery, but it was filled with unexpected twists and turns.
In a vlog titled "Unmedicated Birth Story with My Daughter, Unexpected Precipitous Labor, True Knot" from Joyce Pring's YouTube channel, she narrated her child birth journey with Aggie.
She said she was already in full term by the time she gave birth, "I was just exhausted from being super pregnant, Aggie was super heavy."
Joyce also shared she planned on having an unmedicated birth for Aggie, meaning no epidural or anesthesia.
Upon getting to the hospital, it took only two hours before Joyce gave birth. "In a span of two hours, I gave birth. By the time I got to the hospital, 5:26 a.m. kami nakarating sa hospital, I gave birth at 6:67 a.m. that's actually called precipitous labor because it was labor that happened and I gave birth in less than three hours."
The TV host continued to narrate her increasing contractions and the intense pain she felt. During childbirth, Joyce said she gave five intense pushes before Aggie came out.
Nonetheless, Joyce said she would still undergo an unmedicated childbirth if she can when she gets pregnant again. "A lot of people ask me, would you do it again unmedicated? Yes and yes, but this was really scary in the sense na ang daming things that could've gone wrong. First of all, precipitous labor is not normal."
She continued, "Second, when Aggie came out she had a true knot which happens in I think less than 1% of pregnancies. Nag-knot 'yung umbilical cord niya, it makes me really emotional just thinking about it now."
The rare condition wasn't detected in her ultrasounds Joyce explained, "It could've been fatal--that's how babies get oxygen and nutrients, through the umbilical cord. Kung matagal akong nag-labor, or things didn't go as God had planned it, it could've been really, really bad. I feel like it was all a blessing from God."
Joyce ended her vlog adding that she had more difficulties during childbirth such as bleeding so much after Aggie came out. Her full story will be available on the Adulting with Joyce Pring podcast.
