JuanChoyce with Bowie

Find out how Juancho Trivino and Joyce Pring have been keeping their pet Bowie during the quarantine.

One good thing about COVID-19 is that the World Health Organization (WHO) and other experts agree that there are no meaningful signs that our pets can get this virus or spread it.

Although our pets aren't getting sick, the pandemic is shifting our lives and our pets' lives slowly, particularly those living in apartments.

That's the reason why we turn to pet parents Juancho Trivino and Joyce Pring to share their tried and tested tips to help your dog thrive while you're both stuck indoors.

Keep them enriched, indoors

Although you might not be able to keep your dog as physically active while under quarantine, you can still keep your dog mentally and physically prepared by doing a handful of safe at-home exercises.

Joyce advised owners, “Kailangan nagwo-work pa rin 'yung katawan nila and 'di dapat sila ma-bore. What you can do is you can teach them new tricks and make them do other things.”

Hygiene is always a must

A primary issue for urban dogs who are quarantined with their owners during this season is the fact that it's very humid in the Philippines.

So, for Juancho, it's all about making sure to giving your furry pets a bath to regulate their body temperature.

He said, “Ang lahat naman ng mga aso ngayon naiinitan kasi 'di naman lahat sila naka-aircon at 'di sila sanay sa init ng Pilipinas. Right now, it's just really hot. So kahit sandali, give them a bath.”

Don't forget, nutrition

Based on Joyce's observation, she noticed that her pet Bowie started changing his eating patterns when the quarantine was implemented.

To act on this, she advised that owners must make sure that their fur babies are getting the proper nutrition they need while staying indoors.

She said, “Make sure that you are feeding them well. Dahil nga iba na 'yung situation natin ngayon napansin namin na 'di na siya mahilig sa dog food. Mas gusto na niya na binibigyan mo siya ng kanin or konting ulam from what we have.

“So make sure they're fed well.”
