Julie Anne San Jose

As part of embracing her 20th year in the entertainment industry, Julie Anne San Jose released her third self-produced single, “Saglit Lang,” on July 24.

The Asia's Limitless Star performed the song live during her recent media conference, where she also shared the story behind its creation. It all started when she noticed some of her old songs seemingly resurfacing online.

“Bumabalik talaga, nag-re-resurgence 'yung mga luma kong kanta. Na-realize ko na ang dami kong mga kanta pero never nagkaroon ng chance na kantahin ko 'yung mga songs na 'yon,” says Julie.

From there, Julie found herself looking back on her past work while also exploring new ideas for her music. More specifically, she shared the exact moment she began writing “Saglit Lang” and revealed the inspiration behind it—the love of her life, Rayver Cruz.

“Nagkasakit ako, naisip kong sumulat ng kanta habang nasa kama, ta's iniisip ko si Ray,” she recalls.

That personal moment eventually grew into a song that allowed Julie to explore a different musical direction. In her exclusive interview with ATM Live, she explained how she wanted to experiment with a new genre while keeping her music reflective of how she has grown through the years.

“Sabi ko medyo gusto ko ng jazzy approach, so ito naman medyo bossa…” she says, emphasizing that her writing style has also shifted toward a more mature sound. “We all grow up. So I guess it's a more grown-up approach when it comes to writing songs and writing my music.”

With its gentle sound and romantic undertones, Julie hopes “Saglit Lang” gives listeners a moment to slow down and simply be at peace. She wants the song to feel calm and comforting, especially at a time when people need a little space to relax.

“Ang pinaka-favorite ko doon, 'yung second verse, 'yung 'kahit malusaw sa dilim ang mga bituin, ikaw lang ang aking hahanapin,'” she adds, pointing out the romantic vibe of the song.

But “Saglit Lang” is only one part of Julie's celebration this year. As she marks two decades in show business, her journey continues to be recognized by fellow artists and the industry she has grown up in.

During her recent guest appearance in TRGGRD!, fellow Kapuso diva Thea Astley proudly acknowledged Julie's evolution throughout her career.

“Grabe, from Asia's Pop Sweetheart, to now, Asia's Limitless Star,” she says. “Sa mga nang-i-invalidate kay Ate Juls, guys, siya na 'yung flag bearer ng GMA Singers.”

And as she celebrates this milestone, Julie is also preparing to give her fans another reason to look forward to what comes next. During the media conference, she revealed that she is planning another concert, which she hopes to hold next year.

“Hopefully, next year. Basta ang masasabi ko lang, it's gonna be worth the wait kasi paghahandaan ko 'to because it's my 20th year,” she says.

After 20 long years in the entertainment industry and counting, Julie Anne San Jose has become an artist many aspire to emulate—not only among her fellow Kapuso stars but also among artists who once looked up to her.

Behind the recognition and the fact that she is now idolized by idols themselves, Julie keeps her advice simple when it comes to reaching one's own stars: “Be humble—'wag malilimutan kung saan nanggaling, always be nice to everyone, and always show up.”
