Youngjae

JYP Entertainment's statement follows after someone claimed to have been a victim of GOT7's Youngjae in high school.

More than 12 hours since releasing their initial statement, South Korean agency JYP Entertainment has said that they will take legal action against the accuser of GOT7's Youngjae after it claimed to be a victim of the K-pop idol during their younger years.

On October 20, a netizen claimed to be an alleged victim of the singer during his time at Mokpo Technical High School.

Since its posting, several Korean news outlets and fans had pointed out the inconsistencies in the netizen's story, including that the author was in the same class as Youngjae during their second and third year in high school, when in fact, the singer had already transferred to Seoul in preparation for his debut under GOT7.

As of this writing, the post has since been deleted.

The following day, JYP Entertainment said that they had heard Youngjae's side of the story, and they are waiting for the author to reach out to their agency to verify the claims.

On Thursday, October 22, the agency declared that the author could not provide any evidence to support its claim after meeting with them in person.

Therefore, JYP Entertainment said that they would take legal action moving forward against anyone who will be spreading false rumors about its artists.

It said, as translated by Soompi.com, “We are making a statement regarding the controversy related to our artist, Youngjae.

“We met with the individual who wrote the post about Youngjae, and although the author of the post made claims that matched his story online, he was unable to provide any evidence to support their allegations that school violence had taken place.

“Concerning both this incident and other cases, we would like to inform everyone that we will be taking firm legal action in response to libel, the spreading of groundless falsehoods about our artists with no material evidence, or additional rumors.”

In other news, Youngjae and his other GOT7 members are preparing for their much-awaited comeback that is rumored to drop this November.

He is also preparing for his first Korean sitcom under streaming giant Netflix titled I Wish the World Would End Tomorrow with Park Se-hwan, Shin Seung-hyun, and (G)I-DLE member Minnie.
