One hundred years after the first Filipino movie was made, the Filipino film industry is honoring the historic event with Sine Sandaan at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta Center yesterday, September 12.
About 300 individuals, or in this case, Philippine cinema's luminaries, were awarded and recognized for making significant contributions to the development of Philippine cinema.
The list also included veteran actors, box-office stars, directors, the movie press, and cameramen.
Among the awardees was Asia's Multimedia Star and The Gift actor Alden Richards who was awarded as a luminary in the Leading Men of the Century category.
Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes was also awarded under the same category.
Also included in the roster of awardees were Therese Malvar for Independent Cinema Best Actress, Roi Vinzon under the Genre Cinema Category, Camille Prats for the Teen Stars Category, Manilyn Reynes, and Philippine Comedy Queen Ai Ai Delas Alas for Icons category.
The event was officially proclaimed on November 11, 2018 after Pres. Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 622, declaring September 12, 2019 to September 11, 2020 as the “Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema.”
Congratulations, mga Kapuso, and long live Philippine film industry!
