Broadcast journalist and I-Witness host Kara David inspired Filipino Pride when she received the Star Icon of Investigative Journalism and Media Excellence Award at The Global Filipino Awards.

The awarding, held on April 5 at the Dusit Thani Dubai, celebrated outstanding Filipinos who have made significant contributions to various fields.

In her heartfelt speech, Kara shared how she felt “so humbled” to receive an award from the award-giving body, especially since she believed that the word “icon” is given to people who have reached a great milestone in life or have done something amazing.

“Pero sa totoo lang, looking at all of you today, kayo, mga Global Pinoys, ang tunay na kahanga-hanga,” she said in her speech.

The award-winning journalist also reflected on the sacrifices and triumphs of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and thanked them for persevering abroad and lending their talents to the world.

“At dahil diyan, kayo ang tunay na icons ng global Filipinos,” she said.

Kara also noted her obligation to her family and her nation. Like the Global Pinoys around the world, she will continue to do her best in her field and expressed her hope that they will do the same.

Kara also reminded everyone to never forget their fellow Filipinos abroad and to be proud of their nationality wherever they may be, “Saan mang panig ng mundo, huwag nating kalimutan ang ating mga kababayan. Dahil ako, tayong lahat, ay Filipino kahit saan at kahit kailan. 'Wag n'yo po 'yan kalilimutan.

“Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat po. You are truly an inspiration to all of us."
