Broadcast journalist and I-Witness documentarist Kara David recently proved how serious she is at her job when she received the Star Icon of Investigative Journalism and Media Excellence Award at The Global Filipino Awards.
In her guest appearance on the GMA Pinoy TV podcast with Toni Pua, Kara shared her first reaction after finding out that she will be receiving the said award.
“Bongga! Bongga kasi minsan lang naman tayo makapunta sa ibang bansa, lalo pa para mag-receive ng award. 'Tapos, when I found out na 'yung nagbibigay ng award ay mga OFWs, global Filipinos, overseas Filipino workers, talagang sabi ko, 'Ay, hindi pwedeng hindian itong mga ito,'” Kara said.
The award-winning journalist shared how impressed she is with overseas Filipinos, especially Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who sacrificed a lot for their families and their country.
“Tapos, lalo na 'yung mga Filipinos na grabe 'yung paghihirap nila para maging successful in their respective field in another country? Sobrang saludo, Kaya to be receiving an award from global Filipinos, hindi ko palalampasin talaga,” she said.

Kara admitted that she feels pressured whenever she receives awards because it means she has to live up to the expectations.
“Pero more than 'yung ang sarap umakyat sa stage, 'yung kaba, 'yung pressure na, 'Shocks, pinarangalan ako ngayon. I have to live up to this.' Hindi ako pwedeng gumawa ng basta-basta istorya lamang kasi you have to live up to that recognition e,” she said.
She added that with the honor of receiving awards comes the trust of the people who gave them, which is where the pressure comes from. Kara said, however, that it also comes with challenges, something that, for her, is needed in a person's life.
“Ang boring ng buhay 'pag walang challenge. So, okay din siya kasi hindi ka nagiging kampante. You keep on learning, lalo mong pinaghuhusay 'yung sarili mo everyday, tumataas ang standard,” Kara said.
She also noted in the end, “So, mas mahirap siya, mas challenging siya, mas nakakanerbyos siya, mas masaya.”
