Want to unlock a new skill or hobby this quarantine period? Why not give roller skating a try? Get tips from Kapuso star Kate Valdez.

Unlocking skills and getting into new hobbies have been the in thing during the quarantine period. While others tapped into their inner Cher or transformed into a plantito and plantita, Kapuso celebrity Kate Valdez opted to get into a more thrilling new hobby: roller skating!

In a recent guesting on Mars Pa More, Kate revealed to hosts Iya Villania and Camille Prats that she first tried roller skating only a few months ago when the lockdown began.

Kate also shared that it was more difficult than she had expected. The fact that she slipped as soon as she stood with roller skates on for the first time is a case in point.

Although there are risks when roller skating, Kate emphasized that it can still be enjoyable for as long as you do it with safety precautions.

So, Kate gave tips for roller skating newbies, from purchasing a good pair of roller skates to safety guidelines while skating. Check them out below.

1. Buy roller skates with rubber wheels, as it is safer to use than the ones with plastic wheels.

2. Wear protective gear such as elbow pads, knee pads, and a helmet.

3. Stretch before roller skating to avoid injuries.

4. Have a spotter or buddy who will look after you or assist you.

5. Work on your balance.

6. Expect to fall, trip, or slip while learning how to roller skate.

Watch Kate show off her roller skating tricks in the Mars Pa More video above.
