Unica Hija star Kate Valdez is set to break into the regional Asian TV market after being named as the lead of the television adaptation of comic book Dreamwalker.

Variety reports that Kate will star as the Filipino-American vlogger Kat, who has the power to enter other people's dreams and extract weapons to use against monsters from Philippine folklore. Dreamwalker is a graphic novel by Mikey Sutton, a Filipino-American pop culture blogger who is the editor and founder of Geekosity. Variety quotes Sutton as saying that the role was written for Kate even before she was attached to star in the adaptation.

“I randomly discovered Kate Valdez in 2018 while recovering from a near-fatal stroke. I saw her on the GMA drama 'Onanay' and her emotionally rich performance and timeless beauty made me declare her the Next Big Thing. I modeled and named 'Dreamwalker' after her,” he said in a statement.

The adaptation is being produced by 108 Media, which is based in both London and Singapore. Variety quotes 108 Media as envisaging the show as a multi-season universe that will air across Asia in 2024.

Other names attached to the project include Deleter director Mikhail Red as series director and Respeto director Treb Monteras II as showrunner and director. Monteras says they are aiming to create a “mind-blowing” series.

“The goal is to create an original mind-blowing and visually dynamic series that dives deep into the horrors in our dreams vs. the horrors of our world. We will utilize different mediums and techniques to create breath-taking designs that capture Philippine folklore's intricate universe,” Monteras tells Variety.

Aside from the Dreamwalker adaptation, 108 Media is also adapting the Palanca-winning novel The Mango Bride into a film, with Megastar Sharon Cuneta attached to star and executive produce.
