Pop star Katy Perry has shared a lighthearted reaction after news broke that her former boyfriend, Josh Groban, is now engaged to musical theatre actress Natalie McQueen.
Katy and Josh briefly dated in 2009, but have remained friends over the years. In June 2017 during one of Katy's livestreams, she called Josh "the one that got away" when she was asked to rank her lovers from best to worst.
This sparked rumors that she penned her 2010 hit about him, called, “The One That Got Away.”
People shared Josh's reaction, taken from an interview with Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Josh said, “I was not expecting that.” He added, “That was a double take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that.
“It's very sweet of her to say that,” he continued. “I'm very flattered by it. But I was very surprised by it too.”
He mentioned that he and Katy have become friends after dating. “We were both very private and we realized we were better as friends and we've been very, very good friends to this day. She's the best,” he said. “I think we're both very taken at the moment, but it's very sweet.”
Following Josh's engagement announcement, Katy posted a video of herself jokingly crying while listening to her own song. The post comes shortly after she released a director's cut version of the original “The One That Got Away” music video, adding a playful layer of nostalgia to the moment.
Katy is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She has a daughter with actor and ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom.
