Kaye Abad on the symptoms of herpangina: 'Having a hard time talking'

Actress Kaye Abad acted to inform her followers and fans on social media about the painful viral infection she caught that makes eating such a hassle.

In her nine-minute long video on Facebook last February 28, the wife of Paul Jake Castillo explained that she is currently in isolation after contracting herpangina.

Herpangina, according to my.clevelandclinic, is a viral infection that quickly spreads among children who are close to each other, especially if they attend daycare or school. The infection causes a high fever and mouth sores that can be painful.

Talking about her ordeal, Kaye said, "I've been isolating myself for three days now. I think I got sa airport or sa plane. I felt sick Sunday night.

“At first the symptoms are - day one and day two actually I had fever, no appetite. Very weak, I was just lying down the whole day for two days. I thought it was dengue kasi I have joint pains also.”

“But then day three, the mouth sores came out, so akala ko noon I had foot and mouth disease. But when I showed the doctor the picture, especially my throat and the positions of the mouth sores, he said it's herpangina. Ngayon ko lang narinig 'yon. I googled it, and it's more or less the same family as hand, foot, and mouth disease, except herpangina is walang rashes sa hands and sa feet,"

"And sa position ng sores, sa cheeks, sa cheek area, and sa tongue, wala ako sa throat."

Kaye admitted that day five, the day the video was uploaded, was really a painful one because of her sores.

“Today ang pinakamasakit, like stingy.. Having a hard time talking.” The celebrity mom said.

“I've been eating oatmeal and juicing lang since day three, kasi hindi ko na kaya mag-solid. Kasi, 'pag nag-chew ako, masakit nga kasi meron ako sa cheeks.

"Good thing na rin na wala akong sores sa throat, I can still drink water, which is very important to hydrate, so I drink lots of water, cold water helps kasi medyo nawawala 'yung stingy na feeling.

“Hopefully, day eight makakain na ako ng solid… No medicine for this, the usual medicine for mouth sores, it won't work, kasi parang ine-explain na it's not the usual, it's viral sores.

She added, “Just to warn you guys, keep safe. It's very hard. Masakit siya, guys. I hope I'll be better."
