She explained, "It was fascinating, in the Philippines, growing up biracial, I was always the white girl. And then I get to New York, I was always the Asian girl."
Kelsey shared the difficulty in understanding her identity in two countries. She said, "I grew being the white girl, and now I am the Asian girl. It's really weird to experience that."
Valeria asked Kelsey if she felt confused about her identity. Kelsey responded, "I still fully identify as Filipino."
She added, "Being biracial, I feel like this is also a common experience with people who are biracial is that neither race fully accepts you because you're not fully one or the other."
Kelsey stated that she knows the culture of the Philippines well. Being born in the Philippines, she identifies as Filipino.
"I was born in the Philippines. I was raised in the Philippines. I was there until like seven years ago. I don't really know American culture, I know Filipino culture by heart. So when I introduce myself, I say I am Filipino."
