Pop and RnB singer Kianna Aaliyah dropped her original single, 'Gwapo,' on Spotlight Music Sessions on Friday, December 8.

In an interview with GMANetwork.com, Kiana shared that when writing songs, she mostly draws on her personal experiences, inner thoughts, and what she would want to happen in the future. For 'Gwapo,' she revealed that she drew inspiration from her past relationship.

“For Gwapo po, I was in a relationship at that time. It was a few years [ago], tagal na rin, and then at the time, it was based on true and personal experience,” she said.

She revealed that she first performed the song when the audience requested an original song and while, at first, she felt the pain she experienced that inspired it, she eventually felt that “it's not me being in that moment anymore.”

“Nagugustuhan ko 'yung the audience when they would say 'Oo nga! Tama! Hindi naman siya gwapo!' 'yung mga ganun,” she said.

She added, “So it was more of now that I would sing the song, I listened to myself singing it before na parang ang lungkot with so much emotion. But now, it's more of yes, conviction, confidence na I wrote the song, I'm healed, I'm where I am today.”

'Gwapo' also recently became one of the songs in Spotify's Fresh Finds playlist and when asked how she felt about it, Kiana said, “very heartwarming, thankful.”

“Tulog ako nun! Ta's paggising ko, na-shock ako, super. I was very overwhelmed, I was very happy, I did not expect it, I felt very, very, very, thankful,” she said.

Kiana also revealed how she started her music career when she was 4 years old. She revealed that she would be chosen to sing in programs or to be part of theater plays.

“Then after that, I got into playing the guitar also because I was influenced by my favorite artist, Taylor Swift. Ever since that time, I would compose my own songs and I was very into music,” she shared.
