Kim Ji-soo

Kim Ji-soo hopes to show a positive representation of Korean parents of "Kopino" children in 'Mujigae.'

K-drama actor Kim Ji-soo is set to star in the upcoming film Mujigae alongside Alexa Ilacad and child star Ryrie Sophia.

The movie tells the story of a five-year old Mujigae, a Korean-Filipino child who lands in the care of her estranged aunt when her mother dies.

Ji-soo will be playing Ji-sung, the absentee father of Mujigae, which is in turn, played by Ryrie.

The actor says that he is glad to be able to do a drama film in the time where action and comedy movies are the emerging trend.

"It was really an honor to film here. Actually, in these days, it's hard to do film. It's hard to find a film especially if it's a drama, a family drama. When you go to the cinema there's always comedy and action but its hard to watch family drama. I thought it was very unique for me," he said during the media conference for Mujigae held on October 2.

Ji-soo also thought that the movie's story is a good chance to show Korean parents, especially those of Korean-Filipino children, in good light.

"I also watched a documentary about 'Kopino.' Actually it was kind of negative way so I want to show them it could be positive way," he shared.

According to the Mixed Filipino Heritage Act of 2020, there is an estimated 30,000 Kopinos in the Philippines who were abandoned by their fathers.

Mujigae

Meanwhile, Mujigae is the movie comeback of UxS, now known as Unitel Straight Shooters, the same team behind hit movies such as Crying Ladies, Santa Santita, and Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.

Mujigae will be exclusively screened in SM Cinemas nationwide beginning October 9.
