Multi-platinum recording artist Kitchie Nadal believes that OPM is burgeoning and holds tremendous potential.
“Some people say that OPM is dead but I would agree more on those people who say that it’s not ‘cause there are so many indie bands, so many bars and so many musicians,” she said.
She is glad that younger people are given the platforms to showcase and hone their craft.
“Even in Eat Bulaga, they feature musicians [on Music Hero]. Ang daming mga bata, even on YouTube, and they make their own songs. I’m happy that there are so many young ones [and that] they’re given the opportunity to showcase their talent, their songs,” she added.
Though she admits that things have changed since she started in the industry, she believes that there are still a lot of Filipinos who endeavor to keep the local music scene alive.
“It’s different now. I [also] like this season for me ‘cause I get to travel abroad ‘cause there are so many Filipinos abroad and they’re hungry for OPM,” she shared.
Because she learned that there are a lot of Filipinos who miss music from home, she’s happy to have been able to perform on the online concert platform Playlist.
“I’m happy that we have this opportunity to share new songs. [The Playlist] is really great because sobrang daming Pinoy all over the world na nanonood talaga sila online,” she concluded.
