SISTAR's Hyolyn was called out after using a racial slur while singing.

Korean singer Hyolyn of SISTAR received backlash after sharing an Instagram Story of her singing Doja Cat's "Say So" and saying the N-word, a derogatory term for black people.

Hyolyn quickly took to X to give an apology letter to the public regarding the incident.

"Hello everyone, this is HYOLYN."

"Yesterday, while singing along to a song that was playing in the background, I carelessly uttered a charged word with significant cultural and historical implications. I am deeply regretful and heartbroken to have hurt so many of you by my ignorance. I am sincerely sorry."

"Please know that I love you all very much, and I thank you for keeping me accountable for my actions. I hope you will be there in my journey to educate myself more on cultures beyond my own, to grow not only as an artist, but as a person."

"Thank you again for all your love and support."

Hyolyn received mixed reactions to her apology, drawing both support and more backlash from netizens.

One X user wrote, "If you didn't mean anything by it then you have nothing to apologize for or “educate” yourself about."

Another commented, "Since nobody else will do it, I WILL; I'm black and I DO NOT accept your apology."

One X user pointed out, "You're so sorry that you turned off your comments and deleted your post and it took you a whole day to apologize."

A fan praised Hyolyn for her heartfelt letter and called her the "queen of taking accountability."

Born as Kim Hyo-jung, Hyolyn debuted with the girl group SISTAR in 2010. She and co-member Bora later formed the sub-group SISTAR19. Among the songs they released is "Gone Not Around Any Longer."

Hyolyn is best known for her singles, many of which have been featured in K-dramas such as "You Make Me Go Crazy" (Master's Sun), and "Goodbye" (My Love from the Star).
