Kyle Jennermann, known as Becoming Filipino on social media, shared his experience as a first-time voter in the Philippines for Eleksyon 2025.
Kyle took his Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines in 2023. He was a former Canadian voter.
In his Instagram post, he expressed why he is impressed as a first-time voter in the Philippines.
"First and foremost, I was really impressed at the vibe at our polling station in Taguig. People were chilled and friendly with one and other... even though I am certain everyone has different voting preferences. I saw lots of smiles at the precinct and on the road outside. In a tense political climate, this was something very refreshing."
Kyle also shared what made him happy about the elections.
"- Big polling room signs were at the entrance. Easy to spot and find where to go.
- My name with picture was posted on the door to the voting area…. literally no one could vote as me. You not only have to find your image and name, but give your fingerprint. The fact you have to register in advance with Comelec, and then they have this... very professional and safe.
- The staff quickly approached people and gave us a number as we arrived at our voting room. Made it easy to understand where to fall in line.
- Only took about 45 mins to vote, even with many people around.
- Wonderful you can see the receipt and double check your votes."
Furthermore, Kyle expressed his observations as a former voter in Canada.
"- The classroom setting for voting with little desks was a bit more “open” than I was used to. There isn't a “hidden cubicle” structure. It would make it a bit easier for someone to possibly see who you are voting for. And with a long sheet for voting, I found it would be quite difficult to actually hide all my selections... because I didn't want to fold or crinkle the voters sheet. Just felt a bit harder to be “secretive” with your ballot.
- I found it a bit strange/sad that people on public roads outside the precinct were offering me cards with sort of “sample ballots”. I believe this was to possibly motivate me or influence me to vote for specific line ups. Or I guess remind people who didn't write down their list?"
At the end of his post, Kyle explained his impressions as a first-time voter and encouraged everyone to participate in this election by casting their votes.
"OVERALL I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED. CONFIDENT IN EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MY VOTES BEING COUNTED. GREAT VIBE AND HELPFUL STAFF.
YOU HAVE UNTIL 7PM TONIGHT! GO VOTE!"
