Screenshots of alleged explicit conversations between Korean actor Lee Yi-kyung and a non-celebrity woman circulated widely online on Monday, quickly gaining traction across social media.
The leaked captures, said to be from KakaoTalk and Instagram, featured chats of a sexual nature and appeared to include Lee's name along with his selfies. These images spread rapidly through online communities, including X (formerly Twitter).
In response, Lee's agency released a statement denying the allegations and announced plans to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading what it described as “falsehoods and malicious rumors.”
Following the rapid spread of the screenshots, Sangyoung ENT, the agency representing Lee Yi-kyung, promptly released a statement addressing the issue. The agency asserted that it would pursue decisive legal measures against individuals circulating “false information and defamatory rumors” on the internet.
“We are getting ready to take legal measures. We will be taking all measures possible, depending on the gravity of the situation and both the direct and indirect damages inflicted by the disruption. Uploading [and reposting] such content is also prone to legal action not just against the initial writer, so we ask people to take precautions against unnecessary damages. We will continue to protect our artists to our best efforts, based on the tips that we receive from the fans and our own monitoring efforts,” the agency stated.
Lee Yi-kyung began his acting career in 2012 with the queer film White Night. He initially appeared in various independent films and supporting television roles, gradually building his portfolio. It was not until the late 2010s that Lee gained wider recognition, thanks to his witty and down-to-earth personality showcased on numerous television variety programs. He also appeared in television shows My Love from the Star, Descendants of the Sun, Confession Couple, Welcome to Waikiki 1 and 2, Marry My Husband, and many more.
