Nonna s Pasta and Pizzeria

When it comes to homemade Italian pizza and pasta, less is definitely more! Check out 'Pop Talk's review of Nonna's Pasta & Pizzeria.

Nonna's Pasta & Pizzeria is the sister restaurant of the famous Italian eatery, Mama Lou's.

According to its Research and Development Specialist and Chef, Carlo Luis Carlos, Nonna's started at BF Homes in Parañaque City.

“And then, when it became known as the Mama Lou's group, we created Nonna's to be able to innovate our pizzas,” he tells Pop Talk.

“So it's going to be something that's traditional but still innovative for the modern times.”

He added that dining at Nonna's is like having dinner at your quirky grandmother's place -- fun, inviting, yet still heartwarming.

“Nonna's is the Italian word for 'grandmother,' and what makes it different from the other restaurants is that Nonna's is like your hip grandmother.

“So, dining here, it feels like you're still eating at your grandma's house. You feel at home.”

Despite having to adhere to protocols brought by COVID, Carlo assures their customers that Nonna's will continue to provide that homey vibe without compromising on safety.

“Now, with the new COVID protocols that we have in place, you also feel safe here dining in,” he explained.

“You can enjoy intimate memories with your family and friends and have heartwarming food from our kitchen to your table.”

In an episode of Pop Talk, host Tonipet Gaba brings renowned Filipino chef Mira Angeles to try Nonna's Pasta & Pizzeria bestsellers.

1. Spinach and Goat's Cheese Pizza - ★★★★
Price: PhP 465.00

What is it: A classic Neapolitan thin-crust pizza that is covered with spinach, mozzarella cheese, and goat cheese.

Chef Mira's verdict: “Simple lang siya. I really like the dough 'cause it's chewy. May konting crisp 'pag nainitan na s'ya kahit na it's delivered. Kasi, 'di ba, minsan 'pag delivery pwede mo nang paliparin 'yung pizza sa tigas?”

2. Nonna's Truffle Pasta - ★★★★★
Price: PhP 385.00

What is it: The classic, homemade truffle pasta made with radiatore noodles, truffle oil, and mushrooms.

Chef Mira's verdict: “Ang lakas ng amoy ng truffle and it's still al dente. It's a happy pasta.

“I appreciate the fact that they also sent a sauce on the side, so alam nilang matutuyo ang pasta at some point kaya doon, happy ako. It tastes nice lalo na if it's warm, ang sarap.”

3. Baked Trufficao - ★★★★
Price: PhP 995 to PhP 2,195

What is it: Tray filled to the brim with layers of creamy, garlicky truffle risotto, topped with bite-sized beefy salpicao and a thick layer of melted cheese.

Chef Mira's verdict: “It's reasonable [for its price] kasi may beef. Itong risotto, mahal na rice ang ginamit. Hindi ito 'yung malagkit na kanin. It's “arborio” o 'yung Italian short-grain rice.

“I'm amazed again kasi kanina pa siyang 12 dumating sa akin, and the meat is still tender.”
