Congratulations, Aicelle Santos!

Kapuso singer and actress Aicelle Santos won the Outsanding Female Lead Performance in a Musical Award for her work in Himala, Isang Musikal at the 11th Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards held on Tuesday, May 28, at the Onstage Theater in Makati City.

The former Miss Saigon actress played Elsa, originally portrayed by film star Nora Aunor, in Ricky Lee and Vincent de Jesus' musical stage adaptation of the 1982 classic.

On Instagram, Aicelle thanked the cast and crew for providing a supportive environment on stage.

She wrote, “Ang gampanan si Elsa at maging bahagi ng produksyong punong-puno ng puso at pagmamahal, sa harap at likod ng entablado ay napakalaki ng tagumpay at karangalan.

“Dagdag biyaya na po ang mga pangaral kagabi. PhilStage Gawad Buhay, maraming salamat.”

Aicelle is the only seventh actor to win back-to-back trophies at the Gawad Buhay Awards, joining Sharmaine Centenera-Buencamino, Audie Gemora, Teroy Guzman, Cris Villonco, Jef Flores, and Rody Vera.

The musical Himala was a co-production between companies 9 Works Theatrical and The Sandbox Collective, was also the night's big winner claiming six other awards including Outstanding Production of Existing Material for a Musical, Ensemble Performance for a Musical, and two trophies for Ed Lacson, Jr., for his stage direction and set design.

The play is set to return on September 2019.
