Andre posted three photos from his basketball playing days on Instagram. The actor-athlete used to play for the varsity team in La Salle Greenhills during his high school days. In college, he then played for the University of the Philippines' Fighting Maroons. When Andre transferred in San Beda, the 20-year-old allegedly planned to play for the San Beda Red Lions.
The actor once commented about the bittersweet feeling he felt when he had to leave the court for his entertainment career. He explained during the press conference of That’s My Amboy, “Of course, nalungkot po ako. Like, nung nalaman kong I had to give up basketball. It’s something I love, eh. I’ve been doing it since I was six years old, but, of course, I also love [acting.]”
He added that he doesn’t have any regrets now that he is able to make a lot of people laugh during his stint in the program. He expounded, “I love to entertain people, I love looking silly for people, I just love putting smiles on people’s faces. And just knowing na mas effective ito to entertain, I grabbed the opportunity to just be here [in That's My Amboy.] And, you know, kahit sleep late [gagawin ko] and [I'll] do anything for people, basta ma-entertain sila.”
