He beat fellow nominees Piolo Pascual (Ang Panahon ng Halimaw), Paolo Contis (Through Night & Day), Daniel Padilla (The Hows of Us), Christian Bables (Signal Rock), and the late Eddie Garcia (Rainbow's Sunset) for the title.

On Instagram, the Kapuso actor wrote a short but sweet message thanking the award-giving body for the recognition.

“I give back all the glory to you, Lord. Salamat, Eddys, sa pagkilala,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Bihag actress Max Collins was named Best Supporting Actress for her role on Citizen Jake while Zig Dulay's Liway was hailed as Best Screenplay and Best Film.

Director and writer Elwood Perez, known for his films like Ang Totoong Buhay ni Pacita M, Bilanging ang Bituin sa Langit, and Ibulong mo sa Diyos, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

At the start of the ceremony, a small video tribute was given to the late actor Eddie Garcia who passed away last June.

The EDDYs or The Entertainment Editor's Choice recognizes deserving craftsmen, actors, writers, and directors for their contribution in the film-making industry in the Philippines.

Held at the New Frontier Theater, the awards were handed out by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) and the event was hosted by Kapuso talents Arra San Agustin and Juancho Trivino.
