Lady Gaga never fails to surprise and impress people with her avant-garde performance outfits and her Inauguration Day look is no different.
The iconic singer sang the national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration, wearing a custom look from Parisian label Schiaparelli.
She donned a navy structured fitted jacket paired with a billowing silk skirt and black gloves. And the most eye-catching and most talked about item from Lady Gaga's looks is the colossal brooch she wore, which depicted a dove carrying an olive branch.

While many joked about how Lady Gaga's outfit was giving off Hunger Games vibes, the Oscar-and-Grammy-winning singer's look actually had a beautiful and meaningful message behind it.
As many of us know, a dove holding an olive branch is a signature of peace, and this is the overall theme of Lady Gaga's look.
A day before her inauguration performance, Lady Gaga shared a heartfelt message to her followers on Instagram.
Her caption reads, “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans. A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol 🇺🇸”
She also tweeted a close-up photo of the brooch and captioned it, “A dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make peace with each other.”

Daniel Roseberry, designer of Lady Gaga's look and creative director of Schiaparelli also shared what his creation means to him personally.
In a statement he said, “As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired.”

Meanwhile, multi-awarded singer-actress Jennifer Lopez performed a medley of “This Land Is Your Land” and “America, The Beautiful,” which she remixed with her own hit, “Let's Get Loud.”
The pop legend and 2019 CFDA Fashion Icon awardee wore a head-to-toe Chanel look for her inauguration performance.
J.Lo rocked pieces from Chanel's 2019 and 2020 fall collection, which included an ecru and white tweed overcoat, a ruffled silk blouse, and a sequined high-waisted wide-leg pants.
She also accessorized with Chanel pearl-embellished earrings, bracelets, and belts.

Her all-white ensemble is said to be a nod to the suffragettes, a group of activist women who led the decades-long fight for women's right to vote in the U.S.
The official colors of the suffragette movement are white, gold, and purple.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the first female and first black and Asian-American to become VP, wore purple when she was sworn into office by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Former Secretary of State--and also former First Lady--Hillary Clinton also wore a deep purple pantsuit by Ralph Lauren.
Aside from being one of the official colors of the suffrage movement, purple is considered as a color of unity and optimism.
Purple, which is a mix of blue and red, signifies for the coming together of the two opposing political parties in the U.S., the Republican Party (red) and the Democratic Party (blue).
