Jinri Park

The former 'Encantadia' star shares she got the tattoos before she left the Philippines for Australia

It's been almost two years since former Kapuso actress Jinri Park left the country, but it seems like the Korean star has no plans of forgetting the country anytime soon.

In her latest Instagram post, the former DJ revealed that she had gotten two sampaguita tattoos before she left the country. Jinri joked that the reveal was only happening now because she is unable to see her parents, who would “keeeel” her if they ever found out.

Jinri says the tattoos are meant to help her remember her roots in the Philippines, where she had been living since she was six years old. She described the Philippine national flower as a “symbol of purity, simplicity, humility and strength” and called the country her “home” and “heart”.

Jinri recalled in her Instagram post how hard of a decision it was to decide to leave the country two years ago after spending almost 25 years of her life here. She also touched upon the difficulties she faced being a “third culture kid,” saying that it was hard to feel totally at home either in South Korea or the Philippines.

“In the Philippines people would see me as a foreigner, whereas in Korea, I was also treated as a foreigner because of my exposure to the Philippine culture and environment,” she wrote. “Because of this I had a lot of identity issues and identity crisis as a teen.”

Thankfully, Jinri says today's world is one that sees a mixture of cultures as something common, and now she feels proud to call both the Philippines and South Korea her country.

Jinri also shared that thanks to her Filipino husband, her future children will now be half-Filipino. The couple recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary last March. While the couple canceled their dream ceremony in March of last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they still got the legal documents and signed the registry to make their union official.
