Have they really patched things up?
The year is indeed looking good for Marjorie and Claudine Barretto as the estranged sisters were surprisingly spotted together along with their children and extended families celebrating New Year's Eve together in Olongapo.
Could this mean an end of war for the hostile sisters?
In Instagram page @team_barretto, photos and a video of the entire family welcoming 2022 were spotted, bringing many to think that this might at last be the start of peace for the years-long feuding family.
Meanwhile, a video version further showed Claudine bonding with older brother Mito, daughter Sabina Santiago, nephews Leon and Lucas, and niece Claudia while welcoming the viewers into their family celebration.
Claudine also uploaded an even longer version of the video where, apart from instructing her nephews to say hi on camera, she further showed the food they were sharing and their preparations for the coming new year.
Although a no-show at the Barretto clan reunion, Gretchen threw in a greeting for the family on Claudine's post which the latter answered with a loving reply.
The Barretto family has endured years of recurring conflicts and reconciliations mostly centered among the once very close sisters Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine.
Their close bond was mostly notable during Claudine's then boyfriend, actor Rico Yan's unexpected death in 2002. The two elder sisters came to her aid and defense against critics.
Not long after, family feud has torn up the Barrettos and their infighting first came out in the open in 2004. Since then, countless alterations among the sisters which eventually involved other siblings, nephews, and nieces and even their parents Inday and the late Miguel ensued over the years.
Their most recent encounter happened at their father's wake in 2019 when Marjorie and Gretchen, according to eyewitnesses, got into a spat when the two were being asked to shake hands and make peace by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself.
Claudine, who was expressively affectionate with Gretchen since their reconciliation, reportedly got hospitalized after a supposed fight with Marjorie. The mom of Julia, Claudia, and Leon in turn threatened to sue her younger sister over what she claimed were made-up stories by her.
Accordingly, even Julia, who the In Your Eyes actress vocally regards as a daughter, also allegedly got into a physical fight with her aunt.
Because of this ugly scuffle, the family's reconciliation looked far more impossible until their surprising bond as they welcomed 2022.
