
The stage is set for the Metropolitan Theater's comeback after years of inactivity.
But before that, a blessing ceremony was organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) yesterday, July 20, attended by select representatives.
The attendees include NCCA Executive Director Al Ryan Alejandre, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairperson Rene Escalante, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino Chairperson Arthur Casanova, and Commissioner for the Arts Rolando Tolentino,
Also lending their presence were Film Academy of the Philippines Executive Director Vivian Velez, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chief of Staff David Fabros, and NCCA Supervising Officer for Administration Bernan Joseph Corpuz.

Part of the activities that day was a special film screening to test out the renovated theater's modern surround sound system.
The movies that were exhibited were Maynila, sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag by National Artist Lino Brocka, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral by Jerrold Tarog, and Ang Larawan by Loi Arcenas.

The Metropolitan Theater or MET had a soft opening last June 23 to host an event as part of the 450th founding anniversary of the city of Manila.
A musical titled Lapulapu, Ang Datu ng Mactan is set to be staged in the theater this coming August.
It was reported recently that the MET will have its grand opening in December this year, rolling out movie screenings and stage plays from thereon to entertain diverse viewers.

Inaugurated on December 10, 1931, the MET was designed by architect Juan Arellano.
The stunning art deco structure has been dubbed the Grand Dame of Manila's theaters' for its lavish architecture.
Years of neglect due to various circumstances including ownership issues have unfortunately shut down the MET.

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in 2015 sold the property to the NCCA, which initiated painstaking renovation works aiming to revive the iconic venue.
