The debut album of Megastar Sharon Cuneta will be reissued on vinyl format - 42 years after it was first released by Vicor Records.
The record titled DJ's Pet carried the Rey Valera-penned "Mr. DJ" and would catapult the then 12-year-old Sharon to national consciousness.
The massive success of DJ's Pet was a watershed moment in Philippine entertainment, to say the least
Firstly, it gave Rey Valera his first massive hit as a songwriter in "Mr. DJ."
Aside from the carrier single, Rey also wrote "Naaalala Ka" and the now-classic "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko" for the album.
According to stories, Rey initially struggled to write a song for the young, unknown Sharon given her very young age at the time.
Rey found the singer too inexperienced to deliver a straight-out love song but also a bit too old to sing a nursery rhyme-like tune.
Fortunately, Rey found the perfect formula and was able to craftily blend both elements to come up with a song perfectly suited for Sharon in "Mr. DJ."
Secondly, the album gave birth to Sharon Cuneta the star, a career that would crossover from singing to acting to hosting over the next decades.
“DJ's Pet and the pop gem 'Mr. DJ' is now reissued by Vicor with all the essential early tracks that launched a young Sharon Cuneta,” Vicor Music wrote to announce the project.
“This album, with its original artwork makes it the ultimate OPM throwback.”
The label also said that the record will be released in limited copies, printed in the States, and pressed in 180-gram vinyl to ensure audiophile-grade quality.
Vinyl collectors, or at least those who are familiar with the original release, expressed confusion though on the song line-up for the reissued version.
The titles as they noticed on Side B of the reissued LP are different from the vintage version.
The 1978 version carried the songs "Takot Akong Umibig," "Nalilito Ako," "Ganyan Kaya Ang Umibig," "Tanging Hiling," "Tawag Ng Pag-Ibig," and "Mr. DJ" reprise on Side B.
Meanwhile, the upcoming reissued copy has the songs "Magsayawan," "Ayos Ba?" "Sayang Lang," "Habang Buhay Kita Mamahalin," and "Ikaw Ang Aking Mahal" on Side B.
Nonetheless, Side A for both the 1978 and reissued versions are identical, with the songs "Mr. DJ," "Naaalala Ka," "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko," "Kung Ako'y," "Mahal Po Ba Ako," and "Ikaw Lamang" all included and arranged exactly the same.
No date has been mentioned as to when the LP will be officially released.

Vicor Music is reportedly reissuing albums from its vast catalog including the ones from Rico J. Puno, Ric Segreto, Rey Valera, Freddie Aguilar, VST & Co., and Martin Nievera on vinyl format in the coming months.
