So, what makes these Santa Claus and Rudolph puppets so special?
They were used for the filming of the 1964 stop-motion animation Christmas TV special titled Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
The six-inch-tall Rudolph and 11-inch-tall Santa Claus puppets are both from the collection of Peter Lutrario, a known collector of 1960s Hollywood TV shows memorabilia. These will be sold together by auction house Profiles in History beginning November 13, 2020, at 11 AM, PST.

The puppets were created by Japanese puppet maker Ichiro Komuro. They're made of wood, wire, cloth, leather, and yak hair.
The puppets remained with production company Rankin/Bass Productions until the early 1970s.
When they moved their office, company co-founder, Arthur Rankin, Jr., gave the puppets to his secretary Barbara Adams as a gift.
She then passed them along to her nephew, who kept the puppets under his possession until deciding to sell them to a collector in 2005.

In 2006, the Rudolph and Santa Claus puppets went through some light restoration works.
They had to replace Rudolph's nose bulb and some electrical wirings, and they also had to change the white fur ball on the tip of Santa Claus's hat and the yak hair on one side of his moustache.
