Chinese tech company Huawei has scored a legal victory anew against luxury fashion brand Chanel after a court has ruled in its favor.
The dispute stemmed from a trademark complaint filed by Chanel versus Huawei over a logo, which the former argued looks too similar to its own logo.
Huawei is attempting to secure a European Union-wide trademark for a logo it will be using for its computer hardware division.
The dispute started in 2017, the same time when the tech giant filed for the trademark.
Chanel argued that the design was similar to its distinct logo featuring two horizontal interlocking semi-circles found on its line of products including perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry, leather goods, and clothing.
The court, however, didn't agree and has a different interpretation of the logos.

“The marks at issue share some similarities but their visual differences are significant,” the EU General Court in Luxembourg explained on Wednesday, April 21.
“In particular, Chanel's marks have more rounded curves, thicker lines, and a horizontal orientation, whereas the orientation of the Huawei mark is vertical.”
This is the second time that the verdict for the same dispute didn't go Chanel's way.
The French brand also lost in 2019 when the EU's Intellectual Property Office deemed that the logos were not similar.
Chanel is known to be very protective of its trademark.
In 2017, the brand won a legal dispute against Li Jing Zhou, a Spanish Chinese jewelry wholesaler, for its use of a similar double “C” symbol that closely resembled Chanel's logo.
Chanel may have lost in its latest legal battle, but the luxury brand will always be a winner in the eyes of Kapuso actress-model, Heart Evangelista. Take a look at the many times Heart showed off her love for the popular French brand.
