Maine Mendoza appealed to the public to avoid hurling hate and personal attacks against her husband Arjo Atayde.

TV host-actress Maine Mendoza released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) defending her husband, actor-politician Arjo Atayde, after Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya and Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya alleged in a Senate hearing that the Quezon City 1st District representative was among the lawmakers supposedly demanding kickbacks from government-funded flood control projects.

Maine called the revelation of the Discaya couple as “baseless.”

“Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations.” Maine said.

“Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family until facts come out. I am with my husband in this.”

The noontime show host further stressed, "Wala siyang ginagawang masama sa loob. He has been doing his best to serve the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning. I sincerely hope and pray that the people who are TRULY responsible will be held accountable and that innocent individuals be spared from this mess. Napaka unfair.”

Maine and Arjo tied the knot at the Alphaland Baguio Mountain Lodges Chapel in Baguio.

Before Maine's statement, Arjo already took to social media to refute the claims made by Sarah and Curlee in the Senate hearing.

He said, "I CATEGORICALLY DENY THE ALLEGATION THAT I BENEFITED FROM ANY CONTRACTOR. I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH THEM. HINDI TOTOO ANG MGA AKUSASYON NA ITO. I HAVE NEVER USED MY POSITION FOR PERSONAL GAIN. AND I NEVER WILL. I WILL AVAIL OF ALL REMEDIES UNDER THE LAW TO CLEAR MY NAME AND HOLD ACCOUNTABLE THOSE WHO SPREAD THESE FALSEHOODS."

Arjo entered politics in 2022 when he ran for and won as Representative of Quezon City's 1st District.
